The tragedy:

wht-22-vets.png

We are losing 22 Veterans/day to suicide.

Many of our combat Veterans are returning from war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan with physical and emotional injuries, including PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] and other traumatic brain injuries.

In facing PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] and other combat induced injuries, many of our Veterans are facing these challenges alone.

Our Veterans are not receiving proper medical care or benefits for these combat induced injuries and their lingering effects. They are not home yet.

Homelessness, substance abuse, alcohol dependency, arrests, broken homes, career failures, failed relationships, lack of family support, and difficulty in cultivating social support networks are the aftermath of PTSD and other combat induced injuries.

Military occupations and training are not always transferable to the civilian workforce, which places may Veterans at a disadvantage when competing for employment. As a result, many Veterans wind up unemployed or at entry level positions earning minimum wages, which results in other social problems and poverty.

While politicians boast that we are the richest and most powerful nation in the world, it is a disgrace how our government has dealt with the trials and tribulations of our Veterans.
It is time to bring them home.

A SOLUTION:

Our program is designed to actively assist, support and participate in our Veteran’s recovery process through our horsemanship program.

Simply put, we put Veterans on horses.

We take their competitive spirit, survival instincts and military skills and transfer them to the back of a horse with the goal of teaching them to ride and enter the world of team roping.

Our program allows our combat Veterans the opportunity to ride, interact with horses, work with cattle on horseback, learn the mechanics of team roping and participate in team roping events.

At the ranch, the Veterans are surrounded by other combat Veterans, cowboys and team ropers who understand their plight and challenges. The Veterans are afforded the opportunity to build friendships, camaraderie and service to other fellow Veterans. They quickly realize they are not alone and their perspective on life begins to change and move positively.

The program serves as a therapeutic means of dealing with their combat injuries and recovery process and at the same time, experience a challenging physical activity, competitive goals and a boost to their self-esteem, morale and healthy outlook on life.

The results have been astounding. Through the horsemanship program, the Veterans have discovered that it is OK to live again and many of them are starting to move on with their lives.
